Team Tavistock

The Tavistock Midgets are showing their patriotism by wearing Team Canada sweaters for the month of February. Authorized by Hockey Canada, Tavistock coach Chad Blum received approval from all levels of the OMHA to allow the team to wear the jerseys as Canada hosts the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. These photos are from game 2 of their quarter final series against Mount Forest. Tavistock won 7-1 on Wednesday, February 10 at home to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Dufflebag Theatre 2010

Dufflebag Theatre performed their version of Romeo and Juliet with the help of several Tavistock Pubic School students on Friday, January 29, 2010. Max Blair played Romeo, Candace Wittig was Juliet, Mr. Greg Shewfelt was the Prince, Mrs. Prosser was Tybalt’s mother and Sabrina Whelan was called up at the close of the show to marry Swifty the Messenger. Dufflebag Theatre includes narrator Marcus Lundgren, Rod Keith as Mercutio and Friar Lawrence, Rachel Jones as Tybalt and Meghan Brown as the nurse, Lady Capulet, and Swifty the Messenger.

Angel Jutzi at the Maples

Professional ballerina Angel Jutzi of Kelowna, British Columbia gave two performances at the Maples Home for Seniors in Tavistock on Friday afternoon, January 8, 2010. Her grandfather, David H. Jutzi, is a resident in the retirement home.

Sauerkraut Supper

INTERNATIONAL CUISINE: The Tavistock Men’s Club Sauerkraut Supper was held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 with approximately 1,400 meals purchased. About 800 sat down in the Tavistock Memorial Hall to a family-style meal and another 500 meals were picked up or delivered to local residents.

Tavistock Braves 40th

Over 100 former and current players for the Tavistock Braves gathered Friday night, November 6 for Alumni Night at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre. The team lost 4-3 to Delhi in Southern Junior Hockey League action, but the atmosphere remained festive as players reminisced about past seasons. The 1982-83 Ontario Championship team was honoured prior to the game and 1982-83 captain Paul Albrecht dropped the ceremonial puck to start the game.
